If I had to define my artistic output, I would say that it's the product of a passion for themes of transportation – including aviation, automotive and marine – and a desire to set down emotions and moments in a coherent and realistic fashion.
I work in oil, acrylics and watercolour with scrupulous attention to detail. Over the years, I have also acquired a deeper knowledge of ancient techniques including the use of the golden mean, which I have applied especially in my marine compositions.
Great masters such as Van de Velde the Younger, Stobbart, Vernet, Turner and Hue act as both reference and inspiration for my paintings of naval battles, whilst for other subjects I turn to the likes of Hopper, Constable, Hobbema and Ruysdael, in particular for their sense of colour and atmosphere.
Currently I'm working from old photographs of the harbours, docks and famous bridges of North America, taken around the turn of the twentieth century.
As an active member of the Aviation and Marine Department at the Royal Military Museum in Brussels, I create illustrations for publication and to mark the completion of aircraft restoration projects.
